Apple Swift Programming

Friday, August 1st, 2014

I have had a chance to play with the new Apple Swift programming language for about a month now using the Xcode betas. In my opinion it is not ready for prime time yet; and will probably not be ready by the late September public release.  There are a LOT of features missing, not the least of which is exception handling and scope modifiers.

Even chief architect Chris Lattner has admitted that there are missing features at SwiftInFlux.

Bottom-line:

I would not give up your knowledge of Objective-C yet. It may be deprecated soon, but it will be a deprecation not going away soon.
